The American Meteorological Society (AMS) has recognized long standing member Steve Harned, CCM, of The Association of Certified Meteorologists (ACM) as a Fellow of the AMS. Fellows of the AMS are members in good standing that "have made outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrological sciences or their applications during a substantial period of years". Fellows of the AMS are announced annually and fewer than one fifth of one percent of membership are recognized.
Steve graduated from Florida State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Steve spent much of his career in the National Weather Service, with his last fourteen years as the Meteorologist-In-Charge at the Raleigh, North Carolina Forecast Office of the National Weather Service. He retired in 2004 and continued his practice of meteorology in the private sector, founding Atlantic States Weather and working as an expert witness with over 160 law firms in 30 states and internationally.
In January 2021, Steve was awarded Retired Emeritus by ACM for his long and dedicated service to the meteorological professional and to The Association of Certified Meteorologists. Congratulations Steve!
